Bankruptcy Options for Individuals
For individuals, there are usually two options for bankruptcy, Chapter 7 or Chapter 13. Chapter 7 is "liquidation" or "straight" bankruptcy. You turn over non-exempt assets and you get a discharge of debts. Chapter 13 is an arrangement to pay some debt from disposable income. For individuals with too much income for Chapter 7 and too much debt for Chapter 13, the only bankruptcy option is Chapter 11.
